Mountain men get healthy

A new monthly group for gay men of all ages has been set up in the Blue Mountains.

The group’s first guest speaker, naturopath Steve Purse, said discussions would be broad, but men’s health and wellbeing will be a key topic.

“Our patterns of disease have changed dramatically from last century,” he said.

“We are living with a lot more stress.

“We rise in the morning and, bang, it starts, the self-talk. We talk to ourselves 100 percent of our waking life and many research papers suggest it’s mostly negative. I’m too fat, old, young, thin, short, poor, I might fail, it’s too hard to do, I’m not good enough, on and on the chatter goes.

“One of the most powerful tools for nurturing yourself is to turn self-talk into a positive force. A simple way to achieve this would be to use the three Cs method — catch (recognise) it, challenge it and change it.”

INFO: The next meeting is December 11, 1.30pm, 10 Station St, Katoomba. Bring nibbles to share. Space is limited. www.pinkmountains.com.au
