NOMINATIONS are still open for Out for Australia’s Role Model of the Year awards which will be presented at its inaugural fundraising event in Sydney later this month.

Out for Australia is an organisation that seeks to support and mentor aspiring LGBTI professionals as they navigate their way through the early stages of their career.

[showads ad=MREC]The inaugural Role Model Awards aim to provide visibility to student and professional role models by highlighting their outstanding achievements, contributions to supporting LGBTI people in workplaces, universities and/or the broader community, and their ability to demonstrate resilience.

The awards — one for a tertiary student and one for a professional — also aim to share the stories of students and professionals who do not get recognition for their role model work.

In 2015 Out for Australia expanded across Australia into four states and engaged with over 5000 LGBTI students and professionals. There are plans to expand further in 2016 to under served regional areas as well as increase presence in new industries and professions.

The organisation’s Sydney fundraiser at the Langham Hotel on November 27 is being held to help achieve their goals. Hosted by former NSW Governor Marie Bashir and with special guest Paul Zahra, former David Jones chief executive, the event will also be MC’d by SBS journalist Ricardo Goncalves.
