Sharing knowledge through Camp Co-op

SGLBA financial director Bill Wang and SGLBA vice president and director of Fruits in Suits Mark Haines attended a training session on corporate governance on June 18. This event was hosted by Camp Co-op at ACON’s new offices.

Sydney City Council supported the day by providing a specialist in corporate governance from ‘Our Community’. Topics included how to run smart board meetings, the purpose of boards, planning ahead, and the importance of finding the right people to be on the board.

“It was reassuring to me that the steps the SGLBA has taken in the past year are the right steps — and though we have more to do, I came away feeling confident and empowered that we would achieve our goals,” Haines said.

Camp Co-op is rapidly evolving into an integral community organisation in its own right. More than 30 people attended from a diverse cross-section of organisations, big and small.

“It’s great to be involved in something like Camp Co-op because it provides a forum within which community organisations can learn together and share knowledge,” Haines said.

“I think it’s particularly beneficial for those organisations that don’t normally have the opportunity to engage, and you soon realise that many of us face the same challenges and opportunities. Such cross-organisational interaction can only make us a stronger and more knowledgeable community.”

The next Camp Co-op will be held on September 20.
