Still time to join NMG before AGM

There is still time to become a New Mardi Gras member prior to the organisation’s annual general meeting and board election next month.

Anyone who wants to stand for a board position, vote or raise a point at the AGM must be a member.
Non-members have until August 8 to join New Mardi Gras if they would like to raise a point for discussion at the 2009 AGM, scheduled for Wednesday August 19.

Member participation is something that the board encourages, though it is of course dependent on whether the member considers it important, NMG Company Secretary Peter Munro said.

The usual process is being followed this year, inviting members to nominate new board members if they so wish.

New Mardi Gras was forced to re-schedule their AGM last year due to a lack of numbers present at the first meeting.

A lack of new board nominations also lead to the automatic appointment of five new board members without the need for a vote.

Members are able to have a point of discussion placed on the agenda for this year’s AGM by submitting a Notice of Business, which is signed by two other NMG members, to Munro by July 20. Anyone who joins after that date or who fails to make the written deadline will still have the opportunity to raise points at the end of the AGM.

New nominations for board members must be received in writing by no later than July 22. Nomination forms are available from the NMG website and from their offices.

The completed forms must be signed by the nominee and by two other members.
