Product review: Dr. Spiller Biocosmetics

Redness, spotty chin, blotchy cheeks — up to 90 percent of Australians will suffer from a skin complaint at some point in their lives.

For many of us, the beauty and skin products we shell out for in the hopes of alleviating these complaints could actually be contributing to the problem. If you have the sort of sensitive skin that’s already prone to breaking out in spots or a rash, rubbing acidic creams or abrasive, chemical-laden scrubs into your face won’t do much to counter the problem.

With that in mind, German brand Dr Spiller Biocosmetics recently launched their gentle, natural 120-strong skincare range in Australia.

Here at SSO, we’ve been road-testing a few products for the past few weeks. We started each day with the Gurken Tonic Cucumber Toner, a fresh, light-feeling toner formulated with garden cucumber extract that’s particularly suited to those of us with an oily T-zone. Given time, it gradually restores the skin’s pH balance without the harsh effects of other toners.

After that, we’d apply Gelee Royal Cream (containing, as the name would suggest, royal jelly), ideal for oily and combination skin. It’s a light cream suitable for daily use that will take away dry spots without the unappealing wet-look sheen of so many daily moisturisers.

As a weekly skin treat, we indulged in a Fresh & Fruit mask, recommended for dry and combination skins. The delicious-smelling clear mask smells so good thanks to extracts of pineapple, mango and papaya, and exfoliates gently while also acting as a penetrating moisturiser.

  1. Contrary to the above comment by Mrs. Dennis Hasty, dated August 24, 2013 at 11:49 am, I have had positive results with Dr. Spiller Bio-cosmetics. I have very fair, sun damaged and dry skin in addition to rosacea. After trying the products my dermatologist recommended to no avail, I tried other professional (cosmeceutical) and over the counter skin care lines with the similar disappointing results. Though the other lines I have tried over the years, Revision, Aveda, Sircuit Skin Care, Dermalogica, Cosmedix, Este Lauder, and Clinique, have some wonderful products, I was unable to find a good daily skin care routine from their products that benefited and worked my skin. I finally tried Dr. Spiller Bio-cosmetics at the urging of Ms. Melody. I have found that the daily use of the Aloe Cleansing Milk, Anti-Couperose Cream, and the Aloe Vera Day Cream in the morning and the Sanvita Cream in the evening, has had positive results for my skin. The redness has decreased, the bumps have disappeared, the flaking has diminished and the fine spider veins are less noticeable. Each of the aforementioned lines is expensive, with Sircuit being the most expensive, so I find that Dr. Spiller is on par with most cosmeceutical lines, maybe even a bit less. I do still use CosMedix Pure Enzymes and CosMedix Rescue as a compliment to my Dr. Spiller routine.

I am very thankful that Ms. Melody from West Ga Technical College recommended the Dr. Spiller Skin Care products for my skin care routine. Using Dr. Spiller daily with monthly facials has yielded positive results for my skin.

As a side note to the previous commenter how does your derogatory commentary towards West Georgia Technical College or Ms. Melody support or lend credibility to your review of the Dr. Spiller Skin Care line?

  2. The “hick” aesthetics instructor [Ms. Melody] at hicktown-West Ga Technical College raves about Dr. Spiller. While the Dr. Spiller Bio-cosmetics are enjoyable to use and no doubt have good ingredients, after committing for a year to Dr. Spiller, my skin showed NO visible improvements–unfortunately just another expensive hope [unfulfilled] in a jar.
