Surge in Outgames registrations

The number of people registering for the 2nd Asia Pacific Outgames each day more than quadrupled last week as the close of earlybird fees approached, games organisers have reported.

For some sports, up to half of the final expected numbers have already been achieved, more than four months out from the start of the games, which will take place in Wellington, New Zealand, from March 12-19 next year.

“Numbers are running ahead of our forecasts,” said games registrations convenor Peter Gordon.

While sports such as running and triathlon have no upper limit on numbers, for many, there is a maximum number of participants allowed. Once that number is reached, no further registrations will be accepted for that sport.”

Swimming, ten pin bowling and running remain the most popular sports, but Outgames organisers are also reporting strong numbers for dancesport and lawn bowls.

Volleyball and field hockey are the team sports with the largest registrations.

While earlybird fees for Outgames registration ran out last week, conference earlybird fees run out on November 30.
