Amaechi announced for conference

PrintFormer NBA basketball player John Amaechi has been announced as one of the two chairs for the World Outgames LGBT Human Rights Conference

English-born Amaechi currently works as an educator and broadcaster in Europe and the US. In February 2007, after his retirement from the NBA, Amaechi became the first former player from the league to come out publicly after revealing his sexuality in his memoirs, Man in the Middle. He’s since been regarded as one of the world’s most high-profile gay athletes.

The conference, one of the three mainstays of the worldOutgames in Antwerp this year, is designed for 650 attendees.

It’s hoped that a final ‘Declaration of Antwerp’ will reflect strategies that can lead to the successful achievement of LGBT rights throughout the world.

It will be held July 31-August 2, 2013.
