Beat workshop

Beat workshop

The NSW Beats Working Group is inviting community members to attend a forum on public sex at beats.

The Changing Face Of Beats forum hopes to develop participants’ knowledge of the issues surrounding beats and the holistic approaches necessary for effectively responding to them in NSW.

Topics for discussion include the work of the Beats Working Group, collaborative approaches to working with beats, police force responses, community-based solutions, and the current needs and issues surrounding beats.

The forum will have a particular focus on how new technologies like chat rooms and social networking sites have changed how gay men and other men who have sex with men meet and find sexual partners — an area where there has been little research so far.

The NSW Beats Working Group is made up of representatives of the Anti-Violence Project, NSW Police, the City of Sydney, NSW Parks and Wildlife, NSW Area Health Services, and the Department of Justice and Attorney General’s Office.

The Changing Face Of Beats forum is on Friday December 11, 10am-4pm at the Kerry Packer Educational Centre at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown.

Participants should register with the Beats Working Group beforehand. A registration form can be found in the Men’s Health section of the ACON website.
