Wintour supports marriage equality

Legendary Vogue editor Anna Wintour is the latest prominent New Yorker to make a video supporting the Human Rights Campaign’s push for marriage equality.

In the 30-second clip, the fashion icon likens marriage equality to the right to the vote.

“As far as I’m concerned, having the right to say ‘I Do’ is as fundamental as the right to vote,” says the woman widely held to be the inspiration behind the hit book and movie The Devil Wears Prada.

Brian Ellner, senior strategist for the Human Rights Campaign in New York, says Wintour is a fitting spokeswoman for marriage equality, saying: “she knows the difference between a passing fad and an enduring brand. Equality is part of the New York brand.”

Other videos in the New Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign so far have included Joan Rivers, Whoopi Goldberg, Lucy Liu, Julianne Moore, Christopher Meloni, Moby, Julianna Margulies and Kenneth Cole.
