CIARA – BASIC INSTINCT
Album number four from Ciara seems unlikely to arrest her commercial decline, which is a shame because it’s her most cohesive effort to date, if lacking the radio-ready singles needed to help her compete with Rihanna, Gaga et al.
The brief, 11-track collection was helmed almost entirely by production geniuses Tricky Stewart and The Dream, and it’s a lush affair, filled with icy synths and vocal sighs and coos on sexed-up ballads like I Run It and Speechless (see also: their work on girl group Electrik Red’s lost-classic debut album).
