Deep-sea divers receive early Christmas present

The 2010 Diving For Life fundraiser has been scheduled for October 2-9, in Roatan, Honduras.
Members of the gay and lesbian diving group SUBS are already making plans, according to group member Matt Kaine. He said there is plenty of time for newcomers to take up the sport.
“It’s one of the pieces of news that everyone waits for, to find out where the next location is,” Kaine said.
“Diving For Life trips are aimed at divers and non-divers alike. Most people are divers, but for people whose partners aren’t, they can sit by the pool and soak up the Caribbean sun — which is terribly hard to take, as you can imagine.
“We also look for locations where the diving isn’t so ‘adventurous’, so to speak, so it can be quite easy. If you’re a new diver, it can be a way of getting an introduction to the sport, because you’ve got 100 other divers there, of one skill level or another, who can show you the ropes.”
For experienced divers, the week-long event offers daily diving opportunities in azure Caribbean waters, as well as the chance to do some island-hopping. Offshore diving is also possible, and nighttime dives can be arranged.
Diving For Life serves as a wide-ranging fundraiser. Participating groups bring goods to be raffled. Each group receives a proportionate amount of the funds raised to give to the charities of their choice.
Over the coming months SUBS will concentrate on finding local companies to donate goods or gift vouchers.
