Gay business group lands government grant

The Brisbane Gay and Lesbian Business Network (GLBN) has welcomed a grant from the Queensland Gambling Community Benefit Fund to help promote and develop the group for the next year.

The $35,000 grant will aid the GLBN in marketing and event equipment, with $10,000 allocated towards the hiring of guest speakers.

The GLBN said the funding will go a long way in boosting the profile and increasing membership and attendance of GLBN events, which gives businesses and business-focused individuals within the LGBTI community the opportunity to network, share ideas and socialise.

“This year we are putting a huge amount of effort into venue research and negotiations to provide our members and guests with a wider ranging scope of venues and more quality events,” events director Jason Hurst said.

The GLBN is in the process of surveying members and past guests to find out how the group can become more relevant. The network has announced the next Fruits With a Twist meeting will be held at Era Bistro on November 2, starting at 6pm.
