Detainees thank gay church

Gay and lesbian church group, the Christian Metropolitan Community Church congregation, has received thanks for its work assisting two gay and lesbian Villawood detainees from China.

On Sunday 9 March, the congregation received a gift of four traditional paintings from the mother of detainee Xiao Yu Liu.

Yu Liu, a 25-year-old lesbian who fears persecution as a member of the Falun Gong, has been remanded in Villawood for the past nine months.

Her mother sent the four traditional banner works depicting the seasons in thanks for the outreach work the church has done for her daughter and a fellow Chinese detainee known as Uncle Jo who is seeking residency on the basis of his homosexuality and membership of a Christian Church.

The gifts were accepted into the church and blessed by the Reverend Karl Hand.
