Douglas pulls from NMG election

There will be no election at the upcoming New Mardi Gras (NMG) AGM as the number of candidates standing equals the positions on the board.

NMG co-chair Steph Sands and board member Josh Keech announced they would not stand for election earlier this month, and Michael Douglas decided to drop out of the race as well over the weekend.

The Star Observer understands that Douglas, a former NMG Treasurer decided not to stand after being offered a role on the organisation’s finance committee.

“I think that New Mardi Gras can benefit greatly from Michael’s past success in the Treasurer role and have asked him to take a position in the new term of the new board on our Finance Committee,” Urmson said.

“Whilst he is not standing for the board, that should not mean that we do not utilise his skills.”

NMG company secretary Peter Munro wrote to members to inform them that there were only eight candidates for eight positions around 4.30pm today.

The Star Observer is seeking comment from Douglas.

  1. Jesus, this organisations in bigger trouble than News Corp. and the Labor Party combined! NMG needs a complete overhaul with entirely fresh faces.
