Family First gay scare campaign

Family First NSW has been accused of scaremongering after leader Dr Gordon Moyes sent a newsletter to constituents that claimed a secret alliance between Labor and the Greens would see same-sex adoption and “marriage registration” for same-sex couples legalised within months.
“There has been a series of meetings between the members of the Labor Party and the Greens Party to form an alliance that will seek to push through Parliament some unacceptable legislation in the next few months before both state and federal elections,” Moyes wrote.
“The Premier’s Department, it is said, has ordered the Department of Community Services Minister Linda Burney to meet with Greens Lee Rhiannon to get up legislation allowing for same-sex child adoption and same-sex marriage registration.”
NSW Greens leader Lee Rhiannon said no such meeting had occurred.
“The Greens would welcome the opportunity to meet with Labor or any political party to advance the cause of same-sex adoption,” Rhiannon told Sydney Star Observer. “Unfortunately Labor in NSW is not talking about this issue … It is off the agenda for the ALP in the lead-up to the state election and Reverend Moyes knows that.
“His writings about the Greens, same-sex adoption and marriage equality are designed to dog-whistle conservative voters in the hope he can outdo the Christian Democrats at the state election.
“This is another ugly example of the conservative religious-based parties chasing the homophobic vote.”
The claims come as Family First NSW announced the appointment of former Commonwealth Bank executive Neville Cox as party chairman. Cox is the Australasian regional director for Focus on the Family, a Christian group with a history of promoting the notion that homosexuality is a treatable condition.
Moyes was unavailable for comment or to confirm Cox’s personal views.

  1. I’m sorry but you’re wrong. They do support same-sex marriage.

    ‘Goals
    The Australian Greens want:

    7. the legalisation of marriage between two consenting adults regardless of sexuality or gender identity.

    8. de facto relationships to have equal status in law and government policy regardless of sexuality and gender identity.’ (http://greens.org.au/node/794)

  2. Labor and Greens are extremely homophobic – nothing compared to FFP – but they still would never supported same-sex marriage.

  3. Does this really matter anymore I wonder?

Moyes has a policy void, and will not get any extra votes for his homophobic efforts. He has been losing votes quickly. Lets face it, Family First got a Senate Seat on preferences from Labor. Labor is not making that mistake again.

My friends Peter and Trevor were on 60 with their baby’s from India. They have been on forums on redneck websites all over the internet where people can say what they like hidden in web anonymity . Most people actually congratulate them. Not many Evangelicals on the ground follow what their leaders tell them. People on the street come up to the them and say what a great story. Most of these people are just your average family in the suburbs. Shy me have been walking up the street with them and cringed at such experiences. They are common. All hugs and kisses from strangers.

The great elephant in the room for Moyes is Internet Censorship. This issue is effecting everyone. It has made the Evangelical Christians public enemy number one to a lot of people. The public is furious and asking who the hell are these people. The ALC who? Ah, what utter bastards they are…

In addition we have had the Sorry Day in Canberra, and the public has been educated about how many well known Christian organizations treated children. They were disgusted, some wept openly in offices at reading what had gone on.

The Pope’s knowingly covering up child sexual abuse on top of everything else has not helped.

The Christians who hate us are now under attack from everyone, even many Christians who are fed up with that hate are acting. A good example is the 101 Reverends Marching in Mardi Gras.

Moyes type of hate is not acceptable anymore. Not all of his followers will vote for him. He is now on the wrong side of history let alone the public.

The Moyes brand of Christianity is broken. If all he can offer homophobia in response to the public anger about him then I sleep well at night. He is not exactly winning over the public is he.
