Foster carer information session

Foster carer information session

Australia’s oldest charity, the Benevolent Society, invites you to an information night on foster parenting at the Imperial Hotel on Thursday, November 4.

The event, being hosted by Fostering Young Lives, the Benevolent Society’s out-of-home care program, is a special event aimed at recruiting foster parents from Sydney’s GLBT community.

The Society says it knows many gay and lesbian couples and singles would make great role models for children who can’t live with their birth families.

Around 16,000 young people in NSW are unable to live with their birth families because of the risk of harm or neglect. This can result from a parent’s drug or alcohol abuse, family breakdown, a parent’s illness or depression, a death in the family, or other serious issues.

Foster care can involve days, months or even years. Benevolent Society carers receive financial assistance and ongoing training, and support is available around the clock.

People at the information session will be able to ask questions of a current foster carer and there will be a performance by the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir.
