Hunter happenings

It’s back to business for 2008. Refreshed and eager, ACON continues to tackle issues that affect our community as well as planning our events throughout the year and assisting others with theirs.

Mardi Gras will be fast upon us and ACON has produced a campaign with messages under the banner of Together We Can.

Together we can do many things for our health and wellbeing and by uniting in common causes and in valuing each other, we remain a strong and diverse community.

By attending as many events as possible we can support our regional GLBT groups who provide us with numerous options socially and educationally.

In the Hunter, Mardi Gras preparations are well under way for the Newcastle “Pash’n Bonker” float. Organisers are excited about this year’s theme and welcome as many participants to take part in this milestone 30th anniversary Mardi Gras Parade. Interested? Contact Andrew 0414 652 516 or email [email protected].

Leading up to Mardi Gras, ACON is holding Alcohol, Drugs and Sexual Risk forums simultaneously across the state on 19 February. Gay men will be able to discuss drug and alcohol use, sex and sexual risk with a panel of experts in a safe and confidential space. The Hunter forum will be held at The Gateway Hotel from 6.30pm. Call Sean 4927 6808 for more information.

On the Central Coast, due to Mojo’s Nightclub closing down, the organisers of Krave have returned to Brothers Nightclub at The Entrance. The grand opening is Saturday 15 March and Krave will continue every first and third Saturday of the month. Visit www.krave.com.au for more details.

On the Mid-North Coast, the gang from Trouble in Paradise are holding a dance at Toormina Sports Club on 2 February. For more info visit www.troubleinparadise.com.au.

Camden Haven Lesbian Social Group is holding a women-only dance at North Haven Surf Club, 2 February. For more info call Karen 0403 460 590.

Whatever you do over the month of Mardi Gras, remember to take care, stay together and look after each other.
