Puplick got it wrong (14/8/2003)

The AIDS Trust of Australia has moved to correct a statement by chairman Chris Puplick about the payment of money raised from this year’s Azure Party to the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby. Two weeks ago, Sydney Star Observer reported Puplick as saying that it was the wish of the party organisers that money set aside for the Lobby be paid in a staggered fashion. This week, the Trust released a statement saying this was incorrect as the disbursement of funds is entirely at the discretion of the Trust. So far, $19,000 of a total of $35,000 has been forwarded to the Lobby. The committee of the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby is due to meet tonight and make a decision on whether or not to accept an AIDS Trust offer which would see the outstanding payments made in two instalments in August and September.
