Raising funds for lifesavers

After winning Best Choreography for their 2009 Mardi Gras float and the Sexiest float in 2007, Lifesavers with Pride are back fundraising for next year’s parade entry.
On Saturday, November 7, the lifesaving club will hold a fundraiser tagged Gay Watch 2 at Slide.
“Our float is proof that the GLBT community is everywhere. Lifesaving has always been perceived as a very masculine and straight domain, but as gay lifesavers we’ve had nothing but a positive response from the wider community,” Lifesavers with Pride spokesman Brenton Parry said.
“The fundraiser is crucial to us being able to enter the Mardi Gras parade, which isn’t a cheap endeavour.”
The night will be hosted by drag queen Joyce Maynge with music by DJs Kitty Glitter and Luna T, as well as a live aerial skills performance.
The club is searching for a new choreographer for the 2010 float.
“Our creative director of the past three years has had to step down and we need someone who understands our spirit, sense of fun, sexiness and complete lack of dance ability to come on board and whip us into shape,” Parry said.
Training for lifesaving happens all through summer at Australian beaches and preparation for the float will begin about six weeks out from the parade.

info: Gay Watch 2 will be held at Slide this Saturday, November 7, from 9pm. Entry is $15. If you’re interested in choreographing the 2010 Mardi Gras Float, email [email protected]
