One of the major events during this Bear Essentials festival is the Bears’ Sports Day, to be held on March 2. It’s like the Olympics except for Bears and Cubs, which means the focus is on having a good time with mates.

You don’t need any athletic prowess — just a playful attitude — to enter events like the Egg and Spoon Race, Bag Throw, Hairy Sack Race and, for the beefy bloke, the Tug of War.

If you wish to enter a team, email [email protected] beforehand. There will also be registration on the day, so come and enter as many races as you like.

Come for the competition or simply the sight of Bears working up a sweat. BYO food and drink and a picnic blanket and prepare to enjoy yourself.

It kicks off at 2pm at Bicentennial Park, Glebe (the Jubilee Park tram stop is a short walk away).
