Glamours scoop the medal pool

Melbourne gay and lesbian swimming club the Glamourhead Sharks have triumphed in the pool at the Wellington Outgames.

In three days of competition the Glamours won a total of 65 gold medals, 39 silver and 22 bronze to win the swim event overall.

Glamourheads assistant coach Jason Bucker said the games have proven to be one of the Glamours’ most sucessful meets yet.

“It was so great to see so many personal bests and to see the hard work at training pay off with our amazing medal tally,” he said.

The Glamourheads team — one of the largest contingents at the Wellington Outgames — said they faced their toughest competition from fellow Australian rivals the Sydney Wett Ones and Brisbane’s Aqualicious.

Glamours who put in solid swims include John Marriott, Pam Kempson, Alan Godfrey, Pam Byma, Belle Jones and Ross Wallis.

Standout performers were Sally Bodinnar in the 200m breastroke, Brad Harris in the 400m freestyle and Russell Knee in the 200m butterfly.

Glamours coach Anna Carruthers said she was extremely proud of the team’s efforts.
