Queer netball players wanted

Melbourne’s only queer women’s netball team, the Alternatives, is calling for new players to join.

The team plays socially on Tuesday nights at Flagstaff Gardens and is open to players of all levels of experience.

Team member Catherine Reidy said joining the Alternatives had been a good way to meet other queer women outside of pubs and clubs.

“It was good to get involved in a team — we all like netball and we’re queer,” she said.

“I think a lot of people played netball in school so it’s a good thing to get back into.”

The team, which was formed a year ago, won its first game this month.

“We have a ‘let’s have heaps of fun’ mantra and if we win, that’s awesome,” she said.
