Tennis Sydney unleashed for Mardi Gras

Tennis Sydney will host the Mardi Gras championships from February 17 – 19 at the Illawarra Tennis Centre, Rockdale.

The event will attract more than 170 players from around Australia and overseas to compete in 12 events, from D grade to Open. Tennis Sydney will welcome players from the Northern Territory for the first time, plus returning groups from Team Brisbane, VicTennis and the ACT.

The Mardi Gras championship has been a popular event for the past 20 years and 2012 is shaping up to be one of the best. Tennis Sydney welcomes all members, friends and supporters to join them over the three days, particularly for the finals, which will be played in the afternoon of February 19.

The tournament is a great social weekend. Players have the chance to meet old friends and make new ones at social events like the Saturday and Sunday BBQs. A party is scheduled for February 18, enabling players to relax outside the heat of competition.

Trophies are awarded to the winners and runners-up in each grade. This event is part of the Mardi Gras Festival and the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance’s World Tour.

Tennis Sydney is Australia’s largest gay and lesbian tennis club and encourages all to join them for Mardi Gras in what promises to be a great weekend on and off the courts.
