Yoga with a difference

Yoga with a difference

A men’s yoga group has formed in Enmore to help support and energise the men of the inner west.
Mostly filled with gay men, the group meets every Sunday and aims to create a fresh view on the world through a shared experience.
“These classes are not about achieving flexibility or anything else. They are an opportunity to explore energy and awareness in the body,” instructor Tony Mansfield said.
“The classes are also a chance to retreat from our busy world, to retreat from our busy heads, to allow ourselves time to reconnect, to let go of head chatter and to allow space and peace and quiet.”
At the end of each class the group has an optional half-hour discussion on topics such as work, relationships or sexuality.
“It provides an avenue to generate camaraderie, friendship, share common experiences about work, relationships, fathers, mothers, kids, our culture or anything relevant to the group on the day,“ Mansfield said.
“It’s not therapy, just a group at the end of a class where, being relaxed, people can have a cup of tea and a chat instead of our usual rushing off to the next thing to do.”
info: The Men’s Group meets every Sunday between 9am-11am at the Black Lotus Studio, cnr Wilford and Gladstone Sts, Enmore. More details on www.blacklotus.com.au
