NAIDOC Week is an annual event to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. There are several NAIDOC events in our region between July 3 – 10.
Mid North Coast: Monday, July 4, NAIDOC Week flag-raising, 9am, at Town Green, Hastings. There will be a family fun day at Birpai LALC, July 6. info: email@example.com
Hunter Valley: Wanaruah Aboriginal Art Exhibition and Cultural Event July 4 – 31 in Pokolbin. Cessnock Library will host activities including Aboriginal art workshops on July 4.
Newcastle: Flag-raising ceremony at Newcastle City Hall on July 4, 9am, followed by a march to the foreshore, then a solidarity concert.
Lake Macquarie: Flag-raising ceremony at Lake Macquarie Council at 9am, Tuesday, July 5, a march down The Boulevarde, Toronto, followed by a family fun day at the Toronto foreshore.
Central Coast: Health Expo and Community Gathering, Gosford Showground, July 5 from 10am.
Tamworth: Family fun day on July 8, from 11am at Bicentennial Park.

PFLAG is a peer support group for parents, family and friends of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. The next Newcastle PFLAG meeting in on Saturday, July 2, 1.30pm at ACON, 129 Maitland Rd, Islington. ACON, in association with Aged and Community Service, is running a free workshop for aged-care staff to increase their awareness of the physical, psychological and cultural issues facing GLBT people in aged care.
