ACON Northern Rivers and the Byron Bay Film Festival present:

JOSHUA TREE, 1951: A Portrait of James Dean

Wednesday 6 March 7.30pm at Byron Community Centre.

James Dean’s sexual orientation has been debated in the decades since his untimely death in a car accident in 1955. Set in the early 1950s and focusing on Dean’s experiences as a rising star in Los Angeles, the film’s surreal and dreamlike vignettes blend biographical and fictionalised elements to present pivotal moments in his short yet remarkable life. The film’s rich and sensuous cinematography transports you into a titillating and intoxicating world while James Preston (The Gates) captures the confidence and the talent of the 20-year-old Dean, but also his appetite for fame, intimacy, and sex from both men and women. Also starring Erin Daniels (The L Word) and Robert Gant (Queer As Folk).

PUTTING AN END TO HIV

Everything has changed. We can end HIV as we know it by 2020! By testing more, treating HIV early and staying safe we can reach this exciting and bold new target!  Ending HIV is a new ACON campaign that aims to educate gay men – the population group in NSW most at risk from HIV – about the real possibility that HIV transmission in NSW could be virtually eliminated by 2020 as a result of advances in testing technologies and HIV treatments.  ACON Northern Rivers is planning some great Ending HIV campaign launch events so if you would like monthly campaign updates and local news you may wish to subscribe to our Rainbow News e-Newsletter at [email protected]
