Spring action in the south

Hello from Albury, Beechworth and Yakandandah currently playing host to a rural GLBT community forum and the yearly Spring Migration festival.

Both these events are coming together for GLBT communities from southern NSW and regional Victoria to meet, collaborate and have a great time.

If you’re in Beechworth on September 2, 3 and 4, check out the forum. Issues ranging from human rights to ageing and connecting with the GLBT community through the internet will be hot topics along with a community thinktank to plot future directions.

The ever fantabulous Vanessa Wagner will host the Rainbow Rodeo again — a great afternoon of sexy trivia over lunch before everyone gets ready for the dance party on Saturday night. Visit www.springmigration.com.au Tickets for the dance are available at the door.

This Saturday, September 4, Wollongong Area Gays (WAGS) will have a coffee and cake night. WAGS meet on the first and third weekend of each month from 7-9.30pm at the ACON community space and provide activities for men in the Illawarra. Call Michael on 4226 1163 for more details.

On Saturday, September 18, Port Kembla will see an afternoon of great free entertainment at the Southside Festival at Coomaditchie Lagoon. With open-air performances and food available for a gold coin donation, this alcohol-free event runs from 5-9pm.

The Phoenix Theatre is calling out to queer performers interested in doing a cabaret-style fundraiser in Wollongong. The Red Ribbon Cabaret will raise funds for local ACON services around World AIDS Day, and will also commemorate ACON’s 25 years of community care. Contact [email protected] by October 31 to register your interest or for more information.

Have fun, play safe, and look after each other.
