The Australian Queer Archives (AQuA) is a volunteer-run non-profit organisation, with the world’s largest archive of Australian LGBTIQ+ historical materials.
AQuA was established in 1978 to collect, preserve and celebrate material from the lives and experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex, queer, Brotherboy and Sistergirl Australians.
The collection includes work by writers, artists, photographers and performers, archival collections from significant LGBTIQ+ Australians, archives from community organisations and a huge collection of ephemera from posters to matchbooks, badges to flyers.
They also run exhibitions and loan parts of the archive to external exhibitions, publish books and run a Queer History Walk during Midsumma.
To make an appointment to view the archives at the Victorian Pride Centre please contact them directly at least one week in advance.
