Bentstix Hockey Club is Sydney’s only LGBTQI hockey club.
The club started in 1996 during the Sydney Mardi Gras Festival as a social network. It has since grown to become one of the world’s largest and most successful LGBTQI hockey clubs. According to their website, they currently have over 140 members.
The club has three women’s teams that compete in the Eastern Districts Women’s Hockey Association (EDWHA) winter competition.
They also have four men’s teams that compete in the Sydney Hockey Association (SHA) winter competition.
The club has men’s, women’s and mixed teams that play together during the non-winter months, as well as represent Australia at international competitions around the world.

Bentstix is “dedicated to continually building a diverse, competitive and friendly environment that welcomes all new members wishing to play hockey, get fit and make new friends.”
They were founded with the idea of inclusion, first and foremost, as “a place where anyone and everyone, irrespective of how they identify, is welcome.”
Their website states that they welcome all genders, sexualities, ethnicities, sexes, and religions.
