Gay couple wins an ARIA

The 2008 ARIA Fine Arts Awards took place on Monday night and gay married couple Neal Peres Da Costa and Daniel Yeadon took out Best Classical Album award for their Bach: Sonatas for Violin & Keyboard album with artistic director Richard Tognetti.

The couple have been together for 18 years and have performed together for a decade across Europe in the six-piece chamber music ensemble Florilegium. Tognetti said of Neal Peres Da Costa, what a wonderful, effusive human being. It comes across in his music. We are fortunate to have a scholar and musician of such stature here in Australia.

Chris Lilley picked up the award for Best Original Soundtrack/Cast/Show Album with Summer Heights High and Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu for Best World Music Album.

The gala event was hosted by renowned Australian actor Jack Thompson and presenters for the evening included film director Bruce Beresford.

The 2008 ARIA Awards will be held on Sunday 19 October at Acer Arena. General public tickets are on sale now through Ticketek.
