Modern Family star engaged
Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson announced his engagement to his long time partner, attorney Justin Mikita, in a YouTube video launching a new marriage equality initiative.
Ferguson struggles for a word to describe Mikita before settling on fiance.
“It’s true, I popped the big ‘Q’,” Ferguson said.
“I said yes,” Mikita chimes in.
Ferguson and Mikita started their own equality movement, Tie The Knot, with the hope of their union being legally recognised across the US.
The couple have created their own line of bow-ties in collaboration with Tie Bar and will donate the proceeds to various LGBTI charities. The bow-tie collection was inspired by the couple’s love of art and fashion.
“We want our interpersonal relationship to be acknowledged in a union formalised via a wedding ceremony,” Ferguson says in the video.
“Suit up and tie the knot so that one day we can too.”

LGBTQIA+ media is under threat. Queer content is censored by tech conglomerates who amplify bigotry and push out AI slop — so we receive less financial support than ever.
When our community is muzzled and intolerance intensifies, we need queer media more than ever. Your donation means we can continue paying queer journalists to write queer news.
Don’t rely on the straight lies of big tech – support Star Observer instead and donate now.
