Anyone for tennis?
Now in its third year, this weekend’s Pink Cup — for the past two years a tennis event for lesbians — has now expanded to include golf too.
The Cup, to be held on November 6 and 7 at the Illawarra Tennis Club and the Marrickville Golf Club, is an opportunity for lesbians to socialise in a friendly, fun and safe environment while participating in golf, tennis or just coming along to watch and socialise. You don’t have to belong to any sporting club, you can just register and come along on the weekend to get a taste of the two sports on offer.
With 16 women participating in 2008’s inaugural Cup and 33 taking part last year, it’s hoped that, with the introduction of the second sport, 2010 will be the most successful Cup yet.
Participation fees start at $35 for spectators to $95 for those wishing to play both tennis and golf. All fees are inclusive of the price of a smorgasbord or BBQ dinner during the weekend.
If you can’t make it to this weekend’s event, keep an ear out for next year’s Cup, continuing the theme of each year’s event being held in a different state, the 2011 Pink Cup is planned for the Gold Coast.
