Say what you like about Cyndi Lauper, she definitely follows her own path. After getting the gays on side with 2008’s sensationally camp Bring Ya To The Brink, she now turns in a collection of swampy Southern blues songs. The songs here aren’t bad, and she’s assembled a top-notch crew including Ann Peebles, B.B. King and Allen Toussaint, but this is destined to be a niche record, for Cyndi completists only. Blues diehards will find it hard to swallow these Memphis classics delivered in Lauper’s trademark Noo Yawk accent.
