Dolly’s 9-5

Dolly’s 9-5

Hello,

I spent the weekend in Melbourne going to the opening of the Melbourne Festival. It opened with an opera called Afterlife, which quite frankly is where I wanted to be while it was on. The opening night party was far more my scene and the champagne flowed. Of course, I only had a few buckets of it as I want to get that 93.5kg’s down ASAPW (as soon as possible whenever).

Saturday night was entertainment at it’s best with La Soiree at the Forum theatre. This cast is the cream of the cabaret and burlesque world and the audience adored every heart stopping minute of it.

Get yourself a ticket!

Newtown Hotel Reopening

Sydney

OCTOBER 19

There aren’t many people in Sydney who didn’t go to the Newtown hotel in its hey day. There are, in fact, probably just as many who don’t quite remember every time they were there. It also had some of the finest drag shows around on what was probably one of the smallest drag stages in town.

Well, as you’ve probably heard by now it’s going to re-open – with a soft opening this week and official opening on October 31, how spooky!

It’s going to look quite lavish with private dining and a cinema, so you would think the first movie should be Halloween or maybe Priscilla as a tribute to all the past drag divas that worked that sacred ground over the years.

JOY 94.9

Melbourne

OCTOBER 28

One of the many shows on JOY 94.9 FM is celebrating a birthday. However, this one is doing it the only way they know how: they’re putting on a show! The Cabaret Room has only been on the air for a year but they’ve already interviewed a very healthy list of who’s who in the business. They are taking over the Butterfly Club and having a JOY fundraiser to celebrate. On the bill is one of my favourite performers Tina Del Twist. She could dry a watermelon with one look and I love her. I’ll be there of course and you try and stop me from belting out Love is in the Air. Go on, I dare you.

Courtney Act

Brisbane Cabaret Festival

Saturday 3 November

Courtney Act will play the Brisbane Cabaret Festival at the Judith Wright Centre for one night only next month. It’s a bit like that for Courtney these days as she now spends most of her time in LA having moved there in 2011. Well, she’s left her movie star lifestyle behind to dazzle Brisbane in a show called An Alien of Extroadinary Ability.

I’ve not seen it but you’ve only got to look at her previous work and reviews to know that this is one class act. The problem is of course is that she’s also incredibly beautiful and a has a body to die for… So I think she should go back to her own planet, toot sweet, but only after the festival performance.
