Victorian election candidates discuss anti-discrimination
CANDIDATES for next month’s Victorian election discuss the state’s anti-discrimination laws in the latest Meet the Candidates video from the Victorian Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, Pride TV and Star Observer.
VGLRL co-convener Corey Irlam put questions around Victoria’s religious exemptions to anti-discrimination laws to the Sex Party’s Fiona Patten, Labor’s Neil Pharaoh, the Liberals’ Clem Newton-Brown, and the Greens’ Sean Mulcahy.
“It was great to hear the parties talking about their position on anti-discrimination laws affecting the entire LGBTI community,” Irlam told the Star Observer.
“We’ll be working with our community partners to encourage parties to improve gender identity and intersex status definitions in Victorian Legislation.
“Importantly, there was a great discussion between candidates about both their personal and party positions on finding a better balance between freedom of religion and freedom from discrimination.”
