France’s first gay marriage annulled

France’s first gay marriage has been annulled by a court in the city of Bordeaux after it declared the union illegal.

The male couple, Stephane Chapin, 33, and Bertrand Charpentier, 31, said they plan to appeal the decision with the European Court Of Human Rights.

The judge ruled that their 5 July wedding was illegal under French law because marriage is considered the foundation of starting a family, The Guardian reported.
