Prime space up for $100 a week
The City of Sydney will offer $100 rents for prime commercial real estate to attract creative industries.
The council is seeking expressions of interest for creative uses of properties on Oxford St.
A number of local businesses had criticised council in the lead up to the recent local government elections for failing to revitalise the area around Oxford St in the face of ongoing decline.
“This is an incredible opportunity for creative entrepreneurs, cultural organisations, artists and designers to potentially access some of the most sought-after office and retail spaces Sydney has to offer,” Sydney Council CEO Monica Barone said.
“It’s a great way of helping our cultural and creative industries set up shop in affordable inner-city spaces and temporarily transform shopfronts or spaces when commercial tenants move out, or when repairs or upgrades are needed.”
The leases will be available for between one-12 months and be as low as $100.
Properties on William St, Darlinghurst will also be available.
