Paul Holden is back

Paul Holden is back

It was the late eighties when most community clubgoers measured their lives with Mardi Gras and Sleaze Ball. For some this wasn’t enough. DJ Paul Holden and his designer partner took note and launched dance party Bacchanalia.

The aim of Bacchanalia was to create the best dancefloor environment possible with the greatest dance music, terrific sound, exciting and innovative lighting, and dazzling special effects, Holden said.

By the end of 1988, with its Hyperspace party, Bacchanalia was selling out the Hordern and had set the standard with its over-the-top special effects and the best in music, sound, lights and entertainment.

The last commercial party at the Hordern before it was closed due to noise complaints from neighbours, it’s back for New Year’s Eve at the Midnight Shift. This retro-inspired party will see the triumphant return of legendary drag queen Cindy Pastel.

This party at the midnight Shift is the first time in 20 years that we have chosen to have an anniversary celebration and to recall the great times and great music that was experienced at our events and New Year’s Eve seemed a perfect celebratory choice of date.

I was the original DJ at the Bacchanalia parties (as well as being one half of the promoting team) and I will be playing a nine-hour set at the Shift playing all of the great music from the era. I won’t be playing current music -” it will be all Hordern-era music. There was so much good music, it will easily fill the night.

info: Special limited pre-sale tickets are available from the Midnight Shift Video Bar.
