Ready to wrestle?
The Sydney Convicts will take on the Melbourne Chargers in the wrestling ring this Friday.
Wrestle A Rugger will see the rival teams strip off their rugby jerseys and climb into the ring to raise money for their joint Mardi Gras float the following night.
“This is really exciting for both teams as we work together to build a strong and united gay rugby community in Australia,” Convicts president David Whittaker said.
“Both teams hope one day to hold an Australia vs New Zealand rugby tournament in the years when the world cup of gay rugby, the Bingham Cup, is not being held.
“There are similar tournaments in the USA and Europe which have started in recent years as gay rugby internationally has exploded in popularity. We want to see the same kind of event in the southern hemisphere.”
