Libs behind hate advert

The Liberal Party in Tasmania has finally admitted its role in a hateful 2006 state election advertisement after previously playing down links with the religious group funding the advertisement, the Exclusive Brethren.
The admission came ahead of an anti-discrimination hearing to determine the Liberal Party’s links to anti-Greens advertisments in the run-up to the election.
The advertisement hit out at Greens policy, claiming transgender and intersex people ruin families and society.
Last week, Tasmanian human rights activist Martine Delaney won an apology from Exclusive Brethren members for the advertisement after settling on a three-year case in the Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Tribunal.
Delaney, who has agreed to drop the case against the state’s Liberal Party following the admission, said she was pleased with the outcome, but still believes an apology is necessary.
I am happy with the outcome, but saddened the Liberal Party can admit to assisting the Exclusive Brethren members with the advertising campaign, but not to the harm and offence caused, she said.
I didn’t take up the issue just to win the case in the Tribunal. I want lobbyists and political parties to think more carefully before they go attacking other parties, and not target minority groups as some sort of political tool.
Delaney said she hoped the admission would cause the Liberal Party sufficient embarrassment to ensure it didn’t happen again.
In a March 2006 ABC report, former Liberal state director Damien Mantach confirmed he had met with Exclusive Brethren members but denied any financial involvement with the group.
We don’t have any agreements with them. We’re not working with them. There is no cooperation between the two groups and they just indicated that they have a shared interest in not seeing the Greens get elected, he told the ABC.
The joint statement issued has since confirmed the Liberal Party used staffers to provide the Exclusive Brethren with a draft version of the advertisment which was signed off by the state director.
An apology from Exclusive Brethren members Roger Unwin and Graham Lewis appeared in Tasmania’s three main newspapers. The Liberal Party has not agreed to do the same.

  1. Part of the problem is this issue of free speech that the consertives love as it gives them an excuse to bully and slander anybody. It has gotten to the point where I can’t say I 100% support free speech. The issue of free speech seems to be a problem in Australia where all we do is continue to go around in circles where one day we are against certain artlicles like the hate advert and then the next day we are demanding free speech – you see this is the problem that Australia is facing and I can’t see any solution, and every single person has a different opinion on what is free speech and what is not. And for the record I support Martine Delaney in bringing action against the advert.

  2. Whats new ? If you read hansard on some parliment debates the Liberal MP’s practially call us paedophiles, I don’t know why the main stream media lets them get away with it.

  3. What is this? Liberals calling us Child sex offenders and now taking money from Hate Groups in Tasmania! Why is this news? Liberals have always loved Hate Groups.

It is like homosexuals drinking coffee at Gloria Jeans who’s owner sits on the Hillsong Church Board. See the little jar at the counter that raises money for Mercy Ministries. Fairfax reported on victims of them being exorcised to get rid of the homosexual in them. Sadly this did not work. There was no head spinning and the whites of eyes showing.Something is just not right with the circle of money in our community.

We need to boycott Liberals and target businesses that support them. We should not be funding those that seek to incite violence against us and to deny us our very existence. Federal Liberals are terrible, with State Liberals not far behind.

At least our Happy Clapper Kevin Rudd keeps away from both the Brethren and Hillsong. But he just cannot stop clapping for the Australian Christian Lobby and talking in tongues, ” I do not like discrimination, but like to discriminate against people who are gay”.

Later in the year he will clap his way into the ALC conference. They will be talking about how Evil Homosexuals are around Children, and how we should never be around them. http://www.acl.org.au/national/browse.stw?article_id=28624

He will stand side by side with George Pell.

Come to think of it, what is the difference between Labor and Liberal? One hates homosexuals less then the other I think. Oh yes, and they are both cunts when we need them.
