A video of Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten kissing his fiancé has gone viral. Posted to International Hockey Federation’s Instagram page, the clip shows Jettan embracing his partner, Argentinian field hockey player Nicolás Keenan, from the sidelines before giving him a tender kiss on the cheek.

It comes after Jetten made history earlier this year, becoming the Netherlands’ youngest-ever, and first openly gay prime minister at just 38 years old.

In the clip, Jettan is seen wearing his fiancé’s Argentinian team jersey, grinning as Keenan returns from the field following the latter’s 3-0 victory over Japan at the FIH Hockey World Cup. The move was met with immediate praise, with many commenters celebrating the Dutch leader’s choice to model love over political chauvinism.

Though, this praise did not come without a bit of cheek.

“We are excited to see Rob suffer during the Argentina vs. Netherlands match,” one commenter quipped. The aforementioned match is slated to commence today.

A Gay Kiss Embraced By An International Sporting Federation

For others, particularly LGBTQ+ sporting fans, the moment wasn’t about the Prime Minister at all. Instead, it was about seeing a rather ordinary display of affection between two men being celebrated by a mainstream, international federation.

“What I would have given as a young gay guy to see this back when I played hockey,” one commenter wrote in Dutch. “Beautiful.”

Both Jetten and Keenan proceeded to repost the video to their respective Instagram stories. This follows a trend of mutual adoration via the social media app since their engagement in 2024, with Jetten proudly representing his fiancé in a pinned post on his official Instagram page.

“Love you meneer Jetten,” Keenan wrote in the comments of the post, which captures the two of them hugging. The Dutch word “meneer” loosely translates to “mister”.

Keenan will continue to compete in the FIH Hockey World Cup, which will wrap up on August 30.
