Danny Beard has criticised gay Big Brother UK housemate Philip Regan over comments about transgender people, calling for solidarity across the LGBTQIA+ community.

Speaking on Big Brother: The Group Chat alongside GK Barry and Kate Lawler, the RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner said they had “gone right off” the contestant known as “The Queen of Scotty Road”.

Gay Big Brother UK Contestant in the spotlight for trans comments

During recent conversations in the house about trans identity and allyship, Regan claimed some people “identify as a fridge,” making comment about the use of “he or she” being the only pronouns during his younger years.

“Don’t get me started on him, because I loved the Queen of Scotty Road when he came in,” Beard said.

Beard’s own appearance on Celebrity Big Brother in 2025 included conversations about LGBTQIA+ identity. When JoJo Siwa was discussing her sexuality with Beard, telling the drag performer she identified as queer.

That series also saw Mickey Rourke receive a formal warning over homophobic comments towards Siwa.

Responding to Regan’s “fridge comment”, Beard stressed the importance of supporting trans people.

“And the fridge comment… I’m not into anyone from any kind of community pulling up the ladder behind them. Language changes, communities change, we should fight for all of our community and not try to alienate… certainly not our trans siblings.”

Beard also pointed to transgender contestant Nadia Almada’s historic 2004 victory.

“And we look back, 2004, one of the best winners ever, Nadia. Proud trans woman. And then we cut to 2026 and we’ve got people making fridge comments? Get in the bin!” he said.

Regan, 53, has separately attracted criticism for objecting to bisexual housemate Twinks using the word “queer”. He cited that objection among his reasons for nominating her.

Twinks was up for eviction alongside Rob and Yasmin this week and was evicted from the show on Friday night’s live Eviction show.

Beard also criticised Omar El Mayer’s interactions with fellow contestants.

“Not vibing with Omar. I don’t like the way he speaks. Not just to women, though, clock this, to men he thinks are ‘less than’,” he told GK and Lawler.

Omar has also faced criticism from viewers who described his behaviour towards romantic interest Rhianna as overly controlling.
