Big Brother 2026 Introduces LGBTQIA+ Siblings Ryan And Tahlia In New Twist
A garden loving brother and sister duo Ryan and Tahlia have entered the Big Brother Australia house with a family secret, and Ryan already fears what could happen if their fellow contestants uncover it.
Big Brother has welcomed two new LGBTQIA+ housemates, and this time the family resemblance could be a problem.
Ryan, a proudly gay, 27 year old garden centre manager from NSW, and his younger sister Tahlia, 25, from Victoria, have joined the 2026 season with a secret mission: keep their sibling relationship hidden from their fellow housemates.
While viewers know exactly who they are to each other, inside the house they have to act like strangers.
For Ryan, whose personality appears to involve calling everyone “darl” and making friends wherever he goes, keeping that connection under wraps could prove quite the challenge.
Big Brother 2026 – Ryan: “Gay. And single as a Pringle”
A garden centre manager with a rat’s tail affectionately named “Switch-Stefani”, Australian Italian pride and a serious devotion to Susan Boyle, Ryan is bringing plenty of personality into the house.
His bio describes someone equally comfortable serving customers in a wig or making a new acquaintance feel like family. In his pre-show Q&A, Ryan offered a slightly shorter introduction.
“Gay. And single as a Pringle so get the word out!”
Asked how he would describe himself, he chose “lovable”. His friends and family, he admitted, would probably go with “chaotic”.
Even his nickname comes with a warning that everyone else is likely to adopt it too.
“Nickname is Darl. I call everyone Darl, and that’s my nickname. Or Chook,” he explained.
Ryan grew up in Hornsby Heights on Sydney’s North Shore, attended Catholic school and spent a year playing soccer in America before returning to Australia. He now runs his family’s garden centre.
He is open to romance in the house, although kindness will count for more than a particular look.
“I’m an energy type,” he said. “It comes down to a person if I think, if they’re kind and considerate, I’m more attracted to them.”
Behind the jokes is someone who speaks warmly about loyalty, family and his late nonna, whose influence continues to shape his life.
“I have got my nonna’s heart so I feel like it’s good but it also can be such a weakness. I’m very loyal.”
His ambitions include growing herbs, fruit and vegetables, sharing them with other people and documenting the experience — a way of reconnecting with memories of her garden.
Inside the house, however, he is ready to swap the greenery for a little discomfort.
“I’m looking forward to being pushed to my limits in there,” he said.
Food rations, little sleep and living around the clock with people he might not click with are all part of the appeal.
“I want the full experience of life so I’m going to be tested to my limits!”

Meet Tahlia, Ryan’s secret little sister
Tahlia has her own experience of helping people feel comfortable.
According to her bio, the 25 year old works across horticulture, gardening and support work, giving her plenty of practice connecting with people from different backgrounds.
She brings a dry sense of humour, a talent for finding herself in unlikely situations and an ability to turn strangers into friends.
She will also be missing her long term girlfriend, Charlotte, while she is in the house.
Having Ryan nearby means there is already someone who knows her well. The complication is making sure nobody else realises just how well.
Tahlia says she is a huge fan of her big brother Ryan, which is why she is joining him on Big Brother.
Whether that familiarity becomes their greatest advantage or the giveaway that exposes them remains to be seen.

A family secret with consequences
The sibling twist was confirmed when the pair entered the house on launch night as they were tasked with concealing their relationship when entering the house.
Before going in, Ryan was already thinking about how their fellow contestants might respond to discovering a built in family alliance.
“Well there’s a big one that I’m going to try, and that’s my sister. My sister’s coming in with me and we have to pretend that we aren’t siblings,” he said in his Q&A.
“As soon as they know that I’ve got a sibling there, they’re gonna think, oh, there’s two of them, get them up for eviction.”
For someone who describes himself as honest and soft hearted, nominations could be another stumbling block.
“I do I think I’m gonna struggle in there when it comes to like voting people up, especially when I become darls with them.”
His approach, at least before entering, was straightforward.
“My strategy is just to be me and you know, make connections with everyone as much as possible.”
Who else is in the Big Brother house?
Ryan and Tahlia are among 14 housemates introduced for the season, hosted by Mel Tracina in a new Brisbane house.
Other family connections include Tasmanian travel advisor Anita, 47, sister of two-time winner Reggie Bird, and South Australia’s Pam, mother of former contestant Kieran Davidson.
They join Queensland carpenter Austin, 22, engineering student Heath, 23, IT salesman Harmon, 29, and ABBA fan Pheobe, 26.
NSW contestants include Charity, 29, who grew up as one of 13 siblings, and Drama and English teacher Kyrah, 25.
Victoria brings entrepreneur Ebony, 23, and property investor and breakdancing enthusiast Matthew, 37. South Australian forklift salesman Andrew “Marshy”, 24, and Western Australian Matty, 39, who holds a mining engineering degree and an MBA, complete the cast.
Another chapter in Big Brother’s queer history
LGBTQIA+ contestants have long helped make Big Brother memorable.
The day David “Farmer Dave” Graham came out on national television was a moment on Australian TV that few have forgotten.
When Benjamin Norris, who became the first openly gay winner, proposed to his fiancée after winning in 2012, the country cheered along with them.
While there were plenty of queer contestants applying this season, it doesn’t look like they all made the cut for the 2026 season.
2025 saw two queer contestants enter the compound in Dreamworld with Mia & Abiola entering the house; however neither made it all the way to the end of the competition.
Now our latest batch of LGBTQIA+ hopefuls are taking their shot as Ryan and Tahlia have their own chance to connect with viewers, provided they can keep the family stories straight.
With Ryan promising to make everyone his “darl”, the trick may be convincing the house that Tahlia is simply another new friend.
Big Brother airs on Network 10 and streams on 10, six nights a week. Meet the housemates on the official participant page.
