Coming together for Christmas

The Wayside Chapel in Kings Cross is hosting a massive Christmas Day Street Party on December 25, with an open invitation for all in the community to attend.

Hughes St, between Victoria and Macleay, will be shut down to make way for the hundreds of people expected to attend the sit-down lunch. More than 200 people will volunteer to spend the day serving lunch to the most disadvantaged in the community, including many who are homeless.

Wayside Chapel Pastor Rev Graham Long said that the event is about overcoming loneliness and bringing people together for the festive season.

“This event has grown from a modest back lane BBQ to a fabulous community party that helps to relieve the burden of loneliness and create a sense of cheer, despite the hardship some people face,” he said.

The Wayside Chapel will hold a Breakfast at 9.30am on Christmas Day, followed by an outdoor Christmas Chapel Service at 10.30am, and lunch served at midday. The remainder will be an afternoon of songs and festivities.
