Film screening launches Val’s Café

Val’s Café and the Melbourne Queer Film Festival will co-present award-winning documentary filmmaker Stu Maddox’s GEN Silent this Saturday, March 19 at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image as part of the official launch of Val’s Café.

The film explores the lives of GLBTI seniors in the United States who are forced to go back into the closet in order to obtain long-term health care late in life, revealing often shocking discrimination from families and health-care professionals and institutions.

Val’s Café is a collaboration between Gay and Lesbian Health Victoria and the {ALSO} Foundation, supporting and resourcing people who provide services to older GLBTI Victorians.

Along with the screening the launch will include a summary of issues facing older GLBTI Victorians, an overview of Val’s Café’s services and the opportunity for members of the community to become Café members.
