Forum for gay and lesbian parents

The Rainbow Families Council is offering two information sessions for prospective gay and lesbian parents this summer.

The first session, on Monday, January 31, will focus on gay men who want to become dads. It will offer an overview of the laws both in Victoria and nationally that impact on same-sex families.

Linda Goldsmith from TressCox Lawyers will offer gay dads advice about the law and there will be information about social and support groups.

During the second session, on Wednesday, February 2, the Rainbow Families Council’s new information kit will be up for dissection and discussion.

The kit — funded by the Victorian Department of Justice — provides comprehensive information about how families are created, as well as information for prospective and existing GLBT parents, co-parents and donors
about the medical, legal and social implications of the Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act 2008.

The session will also look at the 2008 federal reforms which strengthened the rights of same-sex couples.

Both sessions will include information about the Love Makes A Family adoption campaign, which kicked off last year.

The free sessions run from 8-10pm and will be held at the Victorian AIDS Council. RSVPs are required, so email [email protected]
