FPV takes the lead
Family Planning Victoria is calling for applications for its youth GLBTIQ leadership program.
Young people aged 18 – 28 years have until April 29 to register their interest in taking part in the Q&A 2011 program which aims to improve leadership skills in young GLBTI people.
FPV CEO Lynne Jordan said the program is about fostering good leaders.
“Q&A Vic represents a fantastic opportunity for both established and emerging GLBTIQ leaders to build their leadership capacity and effect real change,” she said.
“These young people will walk away with the practical leadership skills they need to continue to represent, motivate and engage with their communities and foster sustainable change and growth.
“Throughout this process, established Victorian leaders from both the GLBTIQ and wider communities will come on board as mentors, supporting and guiding these young people in developing their capacity to exercise leadership.”
The program is part of FPV’s Mind the Gap initiative which looks at encouraging prevention of HIV and sexually transmissible infections in young GLBTI people.
The program will run from June to October and participants will be involved in a range of programs which include community engagement, personal reflection, retreats, mentoring and project development.
