Midsumma Festival is calling for visual artists to exhibit during their curated visual arts program in 2012.

In partnership with galleries in the City of Melbourne and the City of Yarra, Midsumma annually showcases visual artists, providing queer artists and any artist who creates work relevant or of interest to the queer community, a chance to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment.

Midsumma will also launch ‘Premier Artist’ programming in 2012, where selected artists who produce work of exceptional quality will be given the opportunity to exhibit a series as one of the festival’s Premier Visual Artists.

“Artists previously involved with Midsumma have moved on to great things, some have had their work shown in the NGV and NGA,” festival administrator Monique Thorpe said.

“Khue Nguyen’s self-portrait Unleashed was exhibited during the 2010 festival, and shortlisted for the Archibald Prize.”

If you don’t have enough work to fill an entire gallery and would prefer Midsumma organise and fund gallery space, visit www.midsumma.org.au and submit a proposal by the end of August.
