Punters are being encouraged to get their cameras out and submit their snaps for the first ever gay and lesbian sports photography competition.

Team Sydney has launched a sports photography competition in a bid to develop a database of images.
Entries are now being accepted, and anyone is free to enter, from amateur to pro and from right around the country.

We want to encourage visual record-keeping of club events -” the successes and the team members, said Team Sydney spokesman Wally Salinger.

There will be four categories, with entrants winning the chance to exhibit their work at a professional art gallery during next year’s Mardi Gras festival.

Prizes will be awarded to the best media photo and best general sports photo. Awards will also be given for sports journalism and to general artworks on the subject of sporting prowess.

All entries will be judged by a panel before the best 50 are chosen to be displayed at the Iku gallery in Paddington next year. Closing date for entries is January 31.
