Mardi Gras venue change

Mardi Gras venue change

A special Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras information session, about what to expect from the 2012 Sydney Mardi Gras and the organisation and festival’s recent name and logo change, has moved venues – and will now take place at Darlinghurst’s Heffron Hall at 34 Burton Street on Saturday, December 17, 10am-noon.

The organisation, formerly known as New Mardi Gras, launched its new name and logo on November 17, and dropped the words gay and lesbian from the name of the festival, while returning them to its new trading name – Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

The change resulted in mixed reactions from community members and fierce debate on both the Star Observer’s website and social media.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras have also announced a host of big name acts for the festival in 2012 – including Ru Paul, Neil Watkins, Lee Dagger of Bimbo Jones, JD Sampson of Le Tigre and MEN, Lady Miss Kier from Deee Lite, Chicane, Andy Butler and Wayne G.

The community information session was previously to be held at the ACON building at 414 Elizabeth St, Surry Hills at the same time and date.
